An AI Overview checker is useful when it answers a narrower question than “will AI recommend my site?” It should show whether crawlers can access important pages, whether those pages state clear facts, and whether structured data describes the same entities a human sees.
The audit below is a diagnostic, not a citation promise. AI systems change their retrieval, ranking, and presentation; no checker can guarantee an inclusion, position, or traffic outcome.

The five-pillar audit
1. Crawlability and rendering
Fetch the homepage and priority pages as a normal browser and as a text-oriented crawler. Confirm a successful response, canonical URL, useful HTML without interaction, and no accidental block in robots.txt or edge security rules. A page that only reveals its answer after a client-side action is harder to audit and harder to retrieve reliably.
2. Answer-shaped content
Write the direct answer near the top of each important page. Use the business name, service, audience, location, and meaningful qualification in plain language. Keep claims specific enough to verify and avoid turning a keyword list into a paragraph.
3. Structured data
Use Schema.org types that genuinely describe the page. An Article should identify its headline, author, and dates; a business page should identify the organization and relevant services. Validate syntax, then compare the markup with visible content. Schema helps machines interpret a page; it is not a ranking or citation guarantee.
4. Evidence and consistency
Record the source and checked date for material claims. Compare the legal or public business name, services, locations, and contact details across the site and authoritative profiles. Resolve conflicts rather than adding more promotional language.
5. Measurement and review
Create a small prompt set that reflects real customer questions. Check it periodically across the answer engines relevant to your market, recording date, query, cited sources, and whether the answer is accurate. Treat samples as observations, not a universal score.

- Priority pages return a successful status and have one canonical URL.
- Robots.txt and security controls do not unintentionally block legitimate crawlers.
- The first meaningful paragraph answers the page question directly.
- Headings, lists, tables, and links are present in the initial HTML.

Limitations: what the checker cannot tell you
A checker cannot see every private retrieval signal, infer a model’s future answer, or prove that a page caused a conversion. Search features vary by country, language, account, query, and time. A technically sound page can still be absent, while an answer can cite a page for reasons that are difficult to reproduce. Use the audit to improve clarity and verifiability, not to manufacture certainty.
